Set in the pretty seaside village of Kaikoura, The Pier Hotel has a long history of hospitality. Established in 1885 as a traveller’s and fisherman’s “pub”, the building was later moved to a new site when the wharf was relocated.
The pub has hosted many celebrated local characters and has now become a popular bed and breakfast hotel, as well as a sought-after restaurant and bar, with a friendly atmosphere.
Tourists, backpackers, seniors and families will find The Pier to be a friendly, comfortable accommodation option. Rooms are either single, twin or double/Queen, with shared bathroom facilities. Breakfast is included in the tariff, and you can dine in-house at our restaurant or snack at the bar.
Kaikoura is an area famous for its wonderful variety of seafood, particularly crayfish (or koura in Maori). The Pier’s Brasserie restaurant specialises in cooking these local delicacies, as well as offering a range of delicious meat and chicken dishes, appetisers and desserts.
A more casual option is the Bar, where you can sit indoors or out, enjoying the superb views and sampling from our bar menu and range of beers, local and imported wines, cocktails and spirits.
Kaikoura boasts many distinctive visitor attractions, and is set in the heart of the Alpine Pacific Triangle, a noted touring route. Visit Kaikoura to see whales in their natural environment, either from the air or by boat. Swim with dolphins and seals, or visit the local winery with its unique limestone cave cellar; sample the local seafood and explore the many walks, both inland and coastal. Experience an authentic Maori cultural tour with local tribespeople.
Swimming, fishing, snorkelling, kayaking - Kaikoura offers so many possibilities that you would find it difficult to fit them all into your stay!
